About Mocta-X
Mocta-X makes software that turns a phone video into a technique measurement. Rowing first, then running and golf.
Mocta-X is an independent software maker based in Vancouver, Canada. It builds Mocta-X Dashboard, a web app that grades a side-on phone clip of an athlete stroke by stroke or stride by stride, and Mocta-X for iPhone, the same analysis with on-phone capture, a Concept2 PM5 link and a live voice coach on the erg.
The company started as a rowing club's problem: one coach, a squad of athletes, one launch, and no way to give everyone a same-day read of their stroke. The answer had to work with the phone already in the kit bag, so Mocta-X's analysis needs no markers, sensors or studio. A pose model places 33 body landmarks on every frame, a sport-specific grader turns them into joint angles and timings, and an AI coach reads the graded data and cites the stroke and frame behind every point. The method, its measured limits and the literature it rests on are on the methodology page.
Today Mocta-X grades rowing on the erg, on the water and for whole crews, running form from a side and rear view, and golf swings, and it compares any other movement against a reference clip. Clubs get a shared film room, coach feedback drafted in the coach's own voice, and live erg-test leaderboards. The free plan is free every day.
Mocta-X was formerly called Cam Lab, and its iPhone app was formerly MotionX. It is not affiliated with Camlab Ltd, the UK laboratory-supplies company, or with any university "CAM lab". If you found this page looking for one of those, this is the rowing one.

How we work
- Every number is checkable. Scores come from published weights, each check has a cited reference range, and the coach must name the stroke and frame it is talking about.
- Limits are stated, not hidden. A joint the camera can't see is unmeasured, not guessed. Clips filmed off-axis or too far away are flagged before they are scored.
- Your video stays yours. Raw video is never sent to an AI provider, no face recognition is run, and everything is deleted with your account. See ethics and privacy.
